Night Visit
Abisko is one of the best places in the world to experience the Northern Lights. With the mighty mountains before you, the starry sky above, and silence all around, you wait for the sky to begin dancing in green, pink, and violet. A magical spectacle in a serene and majestic mountain landscape.
Turn off the lights and let the cable car carry you closer to space, up Mount Nuolja. Slowly, you glide up to STF Aurora Sky Station, 900 meters above sea level. The mighty mountains before you, the starry sky above, and the silence around you create a sense of eternity and infinity. Nature itself breathes with anticipation. With a little luck, the crackling Northern Lights suddenly begin to dance across the sky above, and you find yourself in the middle of a meeting between earth and space.
Abisko offers the best conditions in the world for experiencing the magical Northern Lights. Our guides take you to the best spots to see the aurora and share stories about the phenomenon, Lapland, the Sámi people, and the region’s rich culture and traditions.
The evening begins with a two-kilometre cable car ride to STF Aurora Sky Station. Here, sweeping views, an outdoor terrace, and a cosy café with fika and drinks await. You can listen to a presentation about the Northern Lights and join a short hike on the mountain.
In case of severe Arctic weather, the experience takes place in our wood-fired Lavvu in the national park, followed by hikes to the best Northern Lights spots of the evening. Later, warm drinks and northern Swedish delicacies are served in the Lavvu, with opportunities to talk about nature, the aurora, and the history of Abisko.
